Rana drafts and prosecutes patent applications and assists in patent due diligence and freedom-to-operate investigations.
While studying for her Ph.D., Rana conducted research in molecular biology and biochemistry at Sloan-Kettering Institute. Her thesis work focused on understanding the enzymatic mechanisms of mRNA capping enzyme and tRNA ligase, two essential RNA processing enzymes. As a masters student, Rana studied the potential of using N. meningitidis outer membrane proteins as vaccine agents against meningitis. She has published her results in several peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Biochemistry, and PNAS, and has presented her work at international conferences.
Prior to joining Jones Day in April 2008, Rana worked as a management consultant for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the areas of strategy and operations. Her projects included studying the commercial potential of early-stage therapeutic products, performing due diligence work for mergers and acquisitions, as well as optimizing basic research process flows for the promotion of higher efficiency.
