Even as a child, Maria Sager envisioned herself working in a field where she could truly impact people's lives. After majoring in social work while in college, she decided she could have the greatest impact as an attorney and has since dedicated her workers' compensation practice to aiding those who otherwise would be ignored or rejected by the insurance system.
Although she represents all types of workers, from construction workers to secretaries, Maria does have a particular focus on Spanish speakers. Fluent in Spanish herself, she particularly enjoys being able to help clients who are not served by many lawyers.
While in law school, Maria interned for the Women's Employment Rights Clinic, advocating on behalf of women subjected to unlawful working conditions. During her internship at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, she worked on asylum cases. When Maria worked at Battered Women's Alternatives, she represented clients during restraining order hearings and negotiated child support, custody visitation and property agreements.
Maria received her law degree from Golden Gate University and has a B.A. in Social Work from Sacramento State University. She began practicing law in 1999, and worked at the Law Offices of Timothy Gill in San Jose for three years before joining Boxer & Gerson, LLP. Devoted to family, she enjoys spending time with her husband and is currently helping him as he promotes his recently published book.
Case Highlights:
Maria represented a woman who suffered neck and hand problems due to repetitive stress in her position as an engineering lab manager. She had to stop working because of the pain, and became so depressed she could no longer leave her house. Maria litigated the case, and was able to prove that her client's issues were valid, and secured a generous settlement.
