Since her admission to the New York Bar in 1987, Kathleen has been a trial lawyer who has devoted her practice to the defense of complex litigation, encompassing medical malpractice, premises liability, motor vehicle liability and municipal liability claims. In addition, she has negotiated and drafted contracts for physicians and other medical professionals. She has successfully defended hospitals, physicians and other medical professionals in various medical specialties including obstetrics, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, otolaryngology and critical care. Kathleen has also represented physicians before the New York State Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct. In representing physicians and hospitals, she has handled cases where the damages claimed involved neurologically impaired infants, wrongful death and plaintiffs suffering from quadriplegia. The municipality cases have consisted of the defense of Section 1983 (Civil Rights) actions.
Kathleen has also successfully argued appeals before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York as well the Second Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals.
Kathleen is a Past President of the Capital District Trial Lawyers' Association. She is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, where she was a representative to the New York State Bar Association Trial Lawyer's Section. She has served as a Master in the Albany law School chapter of the American Inns of Court. Kathleen has been the attorney liaison for the Shenendehowa Moot Court Team. Kathleen has lectured on various areas of trial practice to state and local bar groups. In addition, she has conducted seminars on hospital policies and procedures, as well as quality assurance and peer review issues for various hospital and nursing organizations. She frequently lectures on various areas of trial practice.
Kathleen M. Ryan is a 1986 graduate of Albany Law School of Union University and a 1983 graduate from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Kathleen is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, and the Second Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals
