Mr. Renard is a senior partner at Bickel & Brewer. He serves on the firm's three-member executive management committee.
Since the firm's inception, Mr. Renard has handled and been involved in cases in a number of substantive areas of law, including securities, antitrust and trade regulation, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, real estate, insurance, environmental matters, construction, constitutional questions, and general contract and business tort disputes. He has acted as lead trial counsel and argued appeals in cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States, and has had first-chair responsibility in major arbitrations around the world.
Mr. Renard received his juris doctor with honors from The University of Texas School of Law in 1981. In 1979, he was the Fall Hildebrand Moot Court Team Champion and Outstanding Advocate. In 1980, he was the Hildebrand Moot Court Team Champion. While in law school, Mr. Renard was elected to the Order of Barristers and the Board of Advocates.
Mr. Renard received his bachelor of science degree, summa cum laude, from Southern Methodist University in 1978, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, was a National Merit Scholar, and was awarded the Alpha Lambda Delta Senior Book Award for the highest grade point average in the University.
Mr. Renard is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern, Western, and Eastern Districts of Texas and the Court of Appeals for the Second, Third, Fifth, Seventh, Ninth, Eleventh, and Federal Circuits.
Mr. Renard has extensive experience in the hospitality industry, and has represented some of the world's leading hotel companies, owners and investors. Not only has his work in this area changed the state of the law, but it also has resulted in the formulation of creative solutions to countless problems confronting the industry. A frequent lecturer and author on issues of hospitality law, Mr. Renard regularly participates in some of the nation's leading hospitality conferences and seminars. He was a founding member of the Advisory Board for Bickel & Brewer's Hospitality Law Institute, which created a forum for addressing issues that challenge the legal and business environments of hospitality enterprises. In 2011, Mr. Renard was a featured presenter at the inaugural Brand Management Roundtable produced by the Cornell Center for Hospitality Research and Cornell School of Hotel Administration.
Mr. Renard is a founding advisory board member of the Bickel & Brewer Foundation and the Bickel & Brewer Storefront, the firm's community service legal affiliate. He has been actively involved in a wide range of community-impact cases and, most recently, has been instrumental in successfully challenging the illegal "immigration ordinances" proposed by the Dallas suburb of Farmers Branch, Texas.
Mr. Renard has been named by Texas Super Lawyers magazine, published by Thomson Reuters, as one of the top attorneys in Texas consecutively from 2003-2010. In 2001, Mr. Renard was named "One of Dallas' Best Lawyers" by D Magazine.
