Av practices in all areas of corporate and business law, but focuses primarily on representing founders, issuers, and investors and underwriters in public and private financings; startup and emerging growth companies; public and private companies acquiring and disposing of businesses and divisions of businesses in connection with mergers and acquisitions; and corporate management and key employees, as both corporate counsel and special counsel.

Av’s clients include medical device, medical products distribution, food service and manufacturing companies. He represents issuers and underwriters in primary public offerings, private placement and venture capital financing transactions, and selling shareholders in secondary public offerings.

Av has served as chairman of the Briggs and Morgan Corporate Securities Group and served on the firm’s board and various committees. He has also served as chairman of the Business Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Securities Law Section of the Hennepin County Bar Association. He has lectured on corporate securities topics for both Minnesota Continuing Legal Education and the Minnesota Institute of Legal Education. Av was a member of the Governor's Task Force which developed Minnesota's Business Corporation Act, adopted in 1981, and was a member of a joint committee of the Minnesota State Bar Association that developed and spearheaded the enactment of Minnesota's Limited Liability Company Law. He is a member of the Hennepin County, Minnesota State and American Bar associations.

Av has been designated a “Leading American Attorney.” He has also been listed in Minnesota Super Lawyers and Chambers USA.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Av received his B.A. from the University of Minnesota and his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School. He joined Briggs in 1982.
