Mr. Dorman graduated the University of Alabama School of Commerce and Business Administration in 1968, with joint majors in business and pre-law, receiving numerous undergraduate honors. He then attended the University Of Alabama School Of Law receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1971. During law school, he was Alabama Editor of the Law Review for two years and a member of the Order of the Coif. He then attended the University of Oxford, England and received a degree in International Law in 1972. After graduating Oxford, Mr. Dorman received a prestigious award from the United States Government and practiced in Huntsville, Alabama for one year. In 1973 he came to Mobile and has practiced in Mobile since that date. Mr. Dorman's practice is primarily focused on actions involving consumer fraud, product liability, banking, commercial law, warranty law and building products, and more recently, almost exclusively with class actions. He has been the principal class counsel on several class actions in the last several years, including Naef, et al. v. Masonite Corporation, et al., Cosby, et al. v. Masonite Corporation, et al. and Smith, et al. v. Masonite Corporation, et al. in the Circuit Court of Mobile County, Alabama, involving approximately 4 million homeowners and almost one billion dollars in recovery to date for class members in those cases. In addition, Mr. Dorman assisted in the firm's pro bono representation of the University of Alabama in its fight against the NCAA sanctioning of the Crimson Tide football team. He was co-lead trial counsel in the State of Alabama's $11.9 billion verdict against ExxonMobil for underpayment of royalties. (NLJ, Feb. 9, 2004).Other noteworthy class action and complex litigation cases in which Mr. Dorman was designated as co-lead counsel include Chamberlan v. Ford Motor Company (Case No. C 03 2628 CW ), a class-action case in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California which resulted in a national class action settlement regarding defective manifolds in Ford automobiles; Bobby Grimes, et al. v. Gulf Telephone (Case No. 99-986-RV-C), complex litigation in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama resulting in a class-wide settlement for employees of Gulf Telephone Company; Amico, et al. v. General Motors, et al. (Case No. CV-2004-092816), a class action in the Superior Court of Arizona in and for the County of Maricopa on behalf of owners of vehicles with defective intake gaskets; Loudermilk Services, Inc., et al. v. Marathon Ashland Petroleum, L.L.C. (Case No. 3:04-CV-00966), a class action in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia on behalf of West Virginia service station owners who allege they were sold contaminated gas; and Donald Bettner, et al. v. Georgia Pacific (Case No. CV-95-333-), a class action case in the Circuit Court of Mobile County involving hardboard siding resulting in a national settlement.

Mr. Dorman is very active in community affairs including the Senior Citizen Services (Board of Directors 2000 - present; Board President 2005 - present); Mobile Symphony Board of Directors (2003 - present); University of Alabama President’s Cabinet (1999 - present); University of Alabama Law School Foundation Executive Board (2004 - present); Atticus Finch Society (2006- present); Honorable Robert G. Kendall, III Endowment Scholarship Committee (2005 - present); Guardians of Justice Campaign Leadership Committee (2006 - present); Downtown Mobile Alliance Board of Directors (2006 - present); Historic Mobile Preservation Society Advisor (2005 - present); and Port City Pacers, Azalea Trail Run Elite Athlete Coordinator (1984 - 2003).

Mr. Dorman is licensed to practice not only in the State of Alabama, but the District of Columbia and the State of New York as well. He is also admitted to practice by The U.S. Supreme Court, The Supreme Court of Alabama, The United States Court of Federal Claims, all U.S. District Courts in Alabama, the Federal Court of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals in the 5th and 11th Circuit. He has served as an Examiner for the Alabama Board of Bar Examiners in the area of Uniform Commercial Code. He is a member of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association (Executive Committee from 2002-present), South Alabama Trial Lawyers Association and the Mobile Bar Association. He is Board Certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Dorman is a member of the International Network of Boutique Lawyers presently serving as President of the Alabama Chapter.
