Amy has wanted to be an attorney as long as she can remember. In fact, she drove her parents a bit crazy as she engaged in debates about everything from current events to curfews to why it wasn't fair for them to force her to eat fish. For graduation, her father framed a newspaper clipping for her that read, "It wasn't anything that you did or didn't do as parents. I was born to be a lawyer."
But why family law? Well, Amy's parents divorced, but they did so amicably and civilly. As a result, she and her brother were well-adjusted, and Amy wanted to help her clients achieve the same positive outcomes for their families. She also once worked for a judge who stressed the importance of knowing your cases backwards and forwards because he had seen so many attorneys arrive at court unprepared. Amy took his advice to heart and even over-prepares for all of her cases. This, of course, is good news for her clients.
This also means that Amy admits to being a bit of a workaholic, but she does manage to find time to stay physically active. While in high school, she played four sports – yes, four – all without losing her honor student status. Today, she enjoys snow skiing when she gets the chance and trains with the Boot Camp Babes. She joined them in the Susan G. Komen 3-day walk to raise money for breast cancer research, helping her team collect more than $80,000.
Amy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications cum laude from Northern Arizona University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver. She was on the Dean's List and received a Harold C. Lawson Memorial Law Scholarship. Before joining our firm, she served as Deputy Public Defender in the Maricopa County Public Defender's Office for three years and spent two years in private family law practice.
Besides law, Amy admits to just two obsessions – the Phoenix Suns and Starbucks. She can't get enough of her favorite team, and every morning for the last four years, she has ordered a delicious iced venti unsweetened iced coffee. (Now you know her weakness.)
