Larry Gabuzda focuses on patent litigation and prosecution, with an emphasis on electrical and computer technology. He has handled patent infringement matters in U.S. District Courts, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). In addition, Larry has prosecuted numerous U.S., international, and foreign patent applications. His experience before the U.S Patent and Trademark Office also extends to reexaminations. Specific technologies have included wireless voice and data networking, GPS, web servers, semiconductors, liquid crystal displays, optical devices and systems, and fiber-optic cables. Clients have ranged from large, sophisticated corporations to research institutes and individual inventors.
Larry's recent representations include defending Lenovo in a patent infringement case concerning video compression standards; handling various aspects of the appeal of GPS company SiRF Technology, Inc., from an ITC determination; representing programmable logic pioneer Xilinx in a complex dispute with LSI Corp.; defending a start-up company in a dispute with a manufacturer involving trademarks, "reverse passing off," and various business torts; analyzing recently issued patents of a technology consulting company for possible assertion; and defending a major computer manufacturer in multiple patent infringement cases involving data networking technology.
Prior to attending law school, Larry worked for Lucent Technologies and AT&T in the renowned Bell Laboratories R&D unit where his responsibilities ranged from the planning of new products and services to the management of international standards activities. Larry is coauthor of two technical books, addressing respectively Intelligent Network Standards and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).
