Mr. Prentiss focuses his practice on family law including: dissolution, custody, the allocation of parental responsibilities, and the modification of previously entered orders. When resolving family law disputes, Mr. Prentiss focuses on crafting resolutions that not only meet his clients' needs, but also ensures that the best interests of the children involved takes top priority.
Mr. Prentiss also practices criminal defense.
Since his admission to the bar in 2005, Mr. Prentiss has tried over thirty cases, handled countless contested motions and other hearings and successfully negotiated settlements in hundreds, if not thousands more.
From an early age Mr. Prentiss knew he wanted to continue his family's legacy as an attorney. His passion for justice and helping those in need has only continued to grow since then. Mr. Prentiss grew up in Texas where he attended Southwestern University in Georgetown and earned a BA in history and theater. After college he moved to Denver, working as a theater technician prior to attending the University Of Denver Sturm College Of Law.
During law school Mr. Prentiss became fascinated with criminal law, becoming a teaching assistant for first year criminal law students, and interning with the Denver District Attorney's office in both the appellate and juvenile divisions. During his third year, while interning in the juvenile division, Mr. Prentiss was recognized by his professors for excellence in Criminal Law drafting and Criminal Trial practice. After graduating from law school Mr. Prentiss was sworn in as a Deputy District Attorney for Denver where he handled hundreds of cases ranging from traffic and misdemeanor matters to first degree murder.
It was at the DA's office, while again working in the juvenile division, that Mr. Prentiss developed a passion for helping children who have become involved in the justice system. After leaving the District Attorney's Office in 2008, this passion naturally focused his practice on parental responsibility actions where he is able to use substantial litigation and negotiation experience to ensure that cases are resolved and that the best interests of the children involved takes priority. That experience also allows him to handle complex and challenging criminal matters, with the unique perspective of a former prosecutor, ensuring the best possible results for clients no matter how big or small their cases may be.
