Mr. Crone was born and raised in Whitewater, Wisconsin. He is a 2010 graduate of The University of Colorado Law School, where he received a full academic scholarship. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Crone attended The University of Chicago, where he studied economics, and The University of Colorado, Boulder, where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
John has lived in Summit County since 1989 and is married to Della with two sons, James and Magnus. Mr. Crone is well known throughout the community having served on the Snake River Planning Commission, The Summit County Library Board of Trustees, the Summit County OHV Park Oversight Board, the Summit Education Foundation Board of Advisors, and the Board of Directors for the Summit Library Foundation. Mr. Crone is also an active volunteer with the Summit School District, Summit Youth Baseball and Softball, Summit Extreme, Summit County Open Space and Trails, the University of Chicago Alumni Schools Committee, and Team Summit. In 2009, Mr. Crone helped draft the Colorado K-12 Social Studies standards and requirements.
Before joining the Law Offices of David A. Helmer, LLC, Mr. Crone worked at The Crone Law Firm, LLC where his practice focused on real estate law, construction defect actions, landlord / tenant disputes, employment law, and general civil litigation. Mr. Crone has also worked at the civil litigation firm Brophy/Clauss, LLC, as well as at the Colorado Public Defender’s Office and the Office of Legal Counsel for Governor Bill Ritter, Jr.
Mr. Crone is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Continental Divide Bar Association, and the State and Local Government Law; Real Property, Trust and Estate Law; Public Utility Communications and Transportation Law; and Forum on Affordable Housing Sections of the American Bar Association. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado, the United States 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. John also volunteers with the Colorado Lawyers Committee Nonprofit Pro Bono Legal Group.
