Jeff Crampton graduated in 1985 from Michigan State University's James Madison College with a degree in Justice, Morality, and Constitutional Democracy. After managing many successful political campaigns, Jeff enrolled at Detroit College of Law, where he graduated, summa cum laude. While graduating first in his class, Jeff served as Editor-in-chief of the Detroit College of Law Review. He remains active in the affairs of the law school, serving on the MSU-DCL Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Upon graduation, Jeff returned to his roots in Grand Rapids, accepting a position at Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett as a litigator. As a partner, Jeff developed a diversified litigation practice, with specialties in representing parties involved in complex civil litigation and real estate disputes. Businesses involved in disputes involving fraud or breaches of fiduciary duties by key employees have found Jeff's counsel and advocacy particularly helpful.
Jeff maintains those specialties and he continues to expand his representation of property owners in complex condemnation actions. Through critical analysis and skillful negotiation, Jeff has been able to obtain compensation for property owners well in excess of the amounts originally offered by condemning agencies.
In addition, lawyers from all over West Michigan put their key clients in Jeff's capable hands when they are accused of committing crimes. Jeff is respected as a practical, discrete, and aggressive advocate for individuals and companies accused of white-collar and environmental crimes. Jeff is a member of the Michigan Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan organization. In addition, Jeff serves on the MSU-DCL Alumni Association Board of Directors, and he is the past president of the James Madison College Alumni Association.
