Originally from Illinois, Richard has an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks (1976). His law degree was received from Rutgers University at Camden, New Jersey, in 1981. Upon graduating from Law School, he returned to Alaska, where he has practiced law since 1981.
He is a member of WealthCounsel, a national organization of estate planning professionals; ePlanners Educational Alliance, a national study group of lawyers, committed to collaboration and cutting edge planning; the Anchorage Estate Planning Council; the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Alaska Bar Association; the Alaska Bar Association's Fee Arbitration Committee; and the Alaska and Anchorage Bar Associations. He is a graduate of the Esperti Peterson Academy of Multidisciplinary Practice Advanced Studies Program in estate planning techniques for high net worth individuals. Richard is licensed to sell life and health insurance and is knowledgeable in both areas.
Richard's background as a litigator gives him a unique ability to assist business owners and professionals with their business succession and estate planning needs.
He is a frequent speaker on estate planning topics, both in Alaska and nationwide. Professional organizations, banks, brokerage firms, and community organizations have benefited from his entertaining teaching style.
Richard served as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Harold Baker (Eastern District of Illinois) in 1980. He also served as a law clerk for Mark Rowland from 1981-1982.
