Steve is an Associate with the Burdette Law Firm, P.C.  Steve engages in a general practice of law including the areas of criminal defense, family law, juvenile law, personal injury, and other litigation. Steve has handled criminal charges through to trial on charges including OWIs/DUIs, drug cases, and other criminal charges, and frequently deals with suppression issues. 

Steve received his Juris Doctorate from Drake University Law School in 2009 and was admitted to the Iowa Bar in the same year.  Steve was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa in 2011. Steve received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political science with a minor in Communication Studies from Central College in Pella.. 

Prior to joining the Burdette Law Firm, P.C., Steve worked as a solo practitioner for two years running his own law office.  He handled a wide range of cases including criminal, family law, mental health, and general litigation.  Steve handled cases in Polk, Dallas, and Warren Counties.  Before that Steve worked for the Berger Law Firm in Urbandale. 

At Drake Law School Steve was a regional finalist on the National Mock Trial Team, was a C. Edwin Moore Oral Argument semi-finalist, and Steve received the top grade in his Trial Advocacy class.  While at Drake, Steve represented indigent clients on criminal matters ranging from OWI to possession of marijuana at the Drake Legal Clinic.  Steve also interned with the Polk County Attorney’s Office prosecuting various crimes from drunk driving to simple misdemeanors.  As a County Attorney intern, Steve argued various motions to suppress.  Upon graduation in 2009, Steve received a certificate in Litigation and Dispute Resolution. 

Steve is active in the community serving on board of his local church, and as the attorney coach for the Central College Mock Trial Team. Steve is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Polk County Bar Association.
