Derrick Coleman's practice is focused on litigating complex commercial and other disputes in the state and federal courts. Derrick has litigated cases in the consumer protection, unfair competition, anti-trust, real estate, securities, health care, employment, and toxic tort fields in both individual lawsuits and arbitration proceedings and in nationwide class actions and other sophisticated multi-plaintiff disputes. He has represented a wide variety of clients over the years, including several of the top ten largest publicly-traded corporations in the world, a number of other Fortune 100 companies, medium-size and small businesses, and governmental and quasi-governmental entities. He has represented some of the largest business organizations in some of the most widely-publicized litigation matters in the nation's history, including cases with billions of dollars at stake.
Before forming Coleman Frost in 2004, Derrick practiced at O'Melveny & Myers LLP for seven years. At O'Melveny, Derrick's experience included serving as the primary liaison counsel for Ford Motor Company in the highly-publicized statewide coordination proceedings, In re Bridgestone/Firestone, featuring hundreds of wrongful death and personal injury claims nationwide. Derrick started his practice at Haight, Brown & Bonesteel LLP in 1993 where he was responsible for a variety of tort, construction defect and labor and employment cases.
Derrick has written and lectured on class action-related topics, including lecturing before the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals ("Class Action Litigation and its Impact Upon Insurers and Regulators").
Derrick earned his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Southern California in 1993 after graduating from Duke University in 1990 with a dual-major B.S. in physics and a B.A. in political science.
