David Y. Farmer has been practicing bankruptcy and business law in San Luis Obispo for over 40 years. During the last 32 years, he has been appointed Trustee to oversee more than 25,000 bankruptcy cases. This gives a wealth of experience to draw from in assisting clients, both creditors and debtors, in the bankruptcy process.
When the State Bar of California decided to certify specialists in the area of consumer and small business bankruptcy, David was one of the first five attorneys in the state to become qualified as such and remains the only San Luis Obispo based attorney certified as a Bankruptcy Specialist. He has taught classes at Cal Poly and regularly lectures to professionals on the issues of bankruptcy law.
While most of his practice is devoted to bankruptcy, he also engages in business litigation, representing local banks and business both big and small in state court litigation. David is regularly appointed by the local Superior Court to assist as a receiver or referee in civil disputes. He is qualified to practice law before all of the Federal Courts of California, all State Courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. David is rated "a-v" by the Martindale Hubbell peer review (highest possible rating). He is a member of the committee on Consumer Bankruptcy of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees. He graduated from Occidental College in 1967, and Hastings College of Law (University of California) in 1970.
