BRENT COBB is a Partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group and is resident in the Birmingham office. Mr. Cobb focuses his practice on counseling employers in all aspects of the employment relationship, including training and preventive counseling. Mr. Cobb also represents employers in arbitrations, litigation and appeals. Mr. Cobb has experience in matters arising out of numerous federal and state laws governing the employment relationship, including federal discrimination laws and wage and hour laws. Mr. Cobb also has experience in specific issues facing public employers.
Together with other Balch & Bingham Attorneys, Mr. Cobb represented the Court-Appointed Receiver of the Personnel Board of Jefferson County in his efforts to reform the civil service system governing Jefferson County, Alabama. This representation included representing the Receiver in both administrative hearings and general litigation. The representation also included drafting rules and regulations governing the civil service system as well as policies and procedures to govern the Personnel Board.
Mr. Cobb has also recently obtained favorable judgments for clients in lawsuits claiming race discrimination, gender discrimination, and workers compensation retaliation.
Prior to joining Balch and Bingham Mr. Cobb served as a law clerk to the Hon. Robert B. Propst, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama.
