The son of missionaries, Attorney Durant grew up in Nebraska, Chile, South America and New Jersey. He majored in Pastoral Studies at Philadelphia College of Bible and worked his way through college selling books for Southwestern Publishing Company. Sports played a major role in his college experience. He was a four-year member of the varsity wrestling team.
Entering Temple Law School in 1968 at the height of the Vietnam War, he received his draft notice and put his legal education on hold. A four-year tour of duty in the United States Navy began with sea duty based in Norfolk, Virginia and ended with a two-year stint at the Naval Security Station in Washington D.C. Following his military service, he returned to Temple Law School where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1975.
The experience of working on his own in business and participating in individual sports convinced Attorney Durant that he was best suited to self-employment. Always an individualist with strong, independent leanings, he set out immediately to start his own law practice - not a popular choice with law school graduates of that day. A well-established and respected solo practice since 1975 has proven the wisdom of that decision.
