Tom Giannetti's practice focuses on representing clients in complex patent litigation involving computers and electronics. His patent litigation experience includes such diverse technologies as compact discs, electrical cable insulation materials, medical devices, capacitor dielectric materials, and polyurethane foams. He also has been trial counsel in trademark cases involving consumer products. In addition, he counsels and represents clients in proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and advises clients on licensing and corporate transactions involving intellectual property rights.
Recent litigations involve representations of Soverain Software (e-commerce technology), Lucent Technologies (telecommunications), SanDisk Corporation (MP3 players), Verizon Communications (e-commerce display systems), and Research In Motion (email systems). Other companies Tom has represented include AT&T, BASF, Bertelsmann, Bombardier, Church & Dwight, Commodore, GE, Nellcor, RCA, Schlumberger, and Siemens AG.
Tom is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Federal Circuit Bar Association, New York Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he served on the Committee on Patents. He also has contributed articles on intellectual property to The National Law Journal and Design News. Before attending law school, he was an electrical engineer with Westinghouse Electric Corporation from 1968 to 1973.
