Alan Friedman is a trial lawyer with 40 years experience in complex business litigation, arbitration, and mediation. His broad practice includes disputes in health care reimbursement, human organ transplant, hospital development, computer systems integration, hotel partnership and hotel owner-operator relations, religious denominations, agricultural cooperatives, real estate, and asset valuations.
Alan represents clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts and in AAA, JAMS, and other arbitrations and mediations. He recently tried and won a multimillion dollar computer systems integration case before a Los Angeles JAMS arbitration panel for a children's hospital against one of the world's largest computer outsourcing companies, then successfully defended the hospital's arbitration award in the courts. He also won summary judgment in San Francisco superior court in favor of a religious denomination, affirmed on appeal, to prevent a member church from taking millions of dollars of church assets out of the denomination.
Alan is a past president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He initiated and chaired a statewide ABTL Discovery Rules Task Force of lawyers and judges, which formulated streamlined discovery procedures for use in civil business cases (downloadable at http://abtl.org/casemanagementorder.htm). He serves on the Los Angeles Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and its ADR Operations Subcommittee. Alan is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association, where he has served on several committees on federal court practices.
