Frederick L. Fowler has been practicing law in the Capital Region since his admission to the New York State Bar in 1975. Fred was raised in Niskayuna, New York, leaving the Capital Region only to complete his Bachelor's Degree at Brown University. Upon graduating from Brown University with a degree in Economics, Fred returned to New York to continue his studies at Albany Law School. In 1974, Fred graduated from Albany Law School with his Juris Doctorate degree. Fred began his legal career in the general practice of law in the Troy, New York area in 1975. In 1981 he moved his office to its current location in a historic Schoolhouse building that he had renovated into offices located at 1011 Hoosick Road, Troy, New York. Fred was also town attorney for the Town of Brunswick from 1977 to 1993.
After Fred's father became ill with Parkinson's Disease in the 1980's, he realized the need for competent and compassionate legal assistance for the elderly. Since then Fred's practice has focused almost entirely on Elder Law, including Medicaid planning and applications, nursing home placements, estate planning and administration and guardianships. He is regularly appointed by the Courts to provide his legal expertise to disabled individuals in estate and guardianship proceedings.
Fred has been very active in a variety of professional organizations and associations including the New York State Bar Association, the Rensselaer County Bar Association and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). He also has been a very active participant in the Elder Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and is a speaker at the continuing legal education programs helping to educate other attorneys in the principles and practice of Elder Law. Fred has also been very active in a variety of civic and community organizations many of which focus on the needs of the elderly.
Fred resides in the Town of Brunswick with his wife and three daughters, enjoys bicycling, puttering in his workshop and especially loves spending time in Sanibel, Florida where he has a residence.
