Matt Corcoran's litigation practice focuses on general commercial and class action litigation in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts.
Matt has extensive experience litigating consumer claims arising out of mortgage servicing practices. Recently, he helped obtain a dismissal with prejudice of an Ohio statewide class action relating to the filing of allegedly false affidavits and other foreclosure practices of a mortgage servicer. Over the past two years, he also has litigated multiple lawsuits relating to a mortgage servicer's loan modification practices and alleged over charging of attorneys' fees. Previously, Matt defended several class action lawsuits arising out of the alleged failure of mortgage servicers to timely record mortgage releases after loans had been paid in full.
Matt also has extensive bankruptcy litigation experience. Recently, he helped obtain an order enforcing the General Motors 363 sale order against three dealers attempting to seek reinstatement in the dealer network in an Ohio court. He has litigated numerous adversary proceedings in the multibillion dollar National Century Financial Enterprises bankruptcy. He also was involved in all aspects of a major Kentucky coal mining bankruptcy, litigating adversary proceedings, plan confirmation and disclosure statement issues, and substantive consolidation issues.
In addition, Matt maintains an active and successful pro bono docket. For example, he recently obtained reversal of a jury verdict against a pro se indigent defendant from the trial judge, entering his appearance after judgment had been entered. He defended the decision on appeal and convinced the Ohio Supreme Court to affirm the reversal of the jury verdict.
