Synopsis of Pertinent Experience: Paul has over thirty-eight (38) years of legal experience, with emphasis in the areas of construction, catastrophic personal injury, insurance bad faith, business, and complex litigation. He has represented public entities, owners, contractors, developers, and design professionals in connection with public works, industrial, commercial, and residential projects, ranging from custom homes to steel mills. He has represented owners, contractors, and insurers in landslide, earthquake, and fire loss matters, involving complex insurance coverage and construction issues. He has represented corporate clients in litigation ranging from complex business disputes to environmental pollution.
Admitted: State Bar of California (1972); United States Supreme Court (1992); United States Court of Appeals (Fifth Circuit - 1983; Seventh Circuit - 2001; Ninth Circuit - 1986); United States District Court (Central, Northern, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California).
Arbitration: Paul has been a member of the Commercial Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") from 1977 to the present. He was a member of the Panel of Arbitrators for the State of California, Office of Administrative Hearings, Public Contract Arbitration Program, from 1984 to 2003. He has served as an arbitrator in over 50 construction law and/or commercial disputes.
Memberships, Awards and Honors: Member, American Board of Trial Advocates ("ABOTA"); Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (Past President); California Defense Counsel (Past President); International Association of Defense Counsel; Maritime Law Association of the United States, Proctor in Admiralty; and Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Paul has been consistently chosen and designated as one of Southern California's "Super Lawyers" (by Law & Politics, and the publishers of Los Angeles Magazine and Orange Coast Magazine) for the past seven (7) years and counting.
As a result of Paul's work for United Services Automobile Association ("USAA"), the firm was identified as one of Los Angeles' "Go-To" Litigation Firms in Corporate Counsel Magazine in 2009.
As a result of Paul's real estate and construction work for Texaco, the firm was recognized in the American Lawyer/Corporate Counsel Magazine survey in 1995 as one of the top 400 law firms in the nation.
Paul has served on the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Blue Ribbon Commission on Superior Court Improvement II (2005-2006); and the Judicial Appointments Evaluation Committee.
