Amanda Cook has been practicing law since 2005, focusing her practice almost exclusively on family law. She has experience representing clients in dissolutions (divorces), legal separations, modifications of parenting plans and child support, contempt and non-parental custody actions.
She recognizes the value of preserving civility in the legal process, particularly when working with children and families. Ms. Cook has been trained to assist families in resolving disputes using methods alternative to litigation, including mediation and collaborative law, in which parties agree to respectfully work through their dispute to achieve a durable agreement.
While she believes changes in family structure are often best resolved by negotiating a settlement that recognizes the authentic interests of both spouses, she recognizes that every family is different and sometimes court intervention is appropriate and necessary. She is comfortable and experienced in court and will pursue litigation through the courts when required.
Ms. Cook is admitted to the Washington State Bar Association and the California State Bar Association (inactive). She is an active member of the Family Law Section of the Pierce County Bar Association, as well as the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and Collaborative Law Professionals of Pierce County.
