Kim Parker-Wesley is an experienced attorney who has been licensed to practice law in New York State since 1998 and in California since 2000. She began her career as an attorney in the private sector working for the Fox News Chanel in New York City as in-house counsel, then went on to work for Pillsbury Winthrop, an inellectual property law firm in Silicon Valley, CA. Her experience as a corporate transactional lawyer has helped her to work towards writing agreements that cover all of the angles and leave very little to be questioned.
After the death of her father and mentor, Kellis E. Parker, Sr., Kim's legal career shifted focus. In 2003 she began working for several legal services agencies who served victims of domestic violence and elder abuse. It was in this capacity that she began to work towards providing assistance to families in crisis; especially for families working towards making the transition from two-parent to one-parent households. Since that time, Kim dedicated her practice almost exclusively to the area of Family Law. She has worked at numerous non-profit agencies, including as an Attorney for the Alameda County Self-Help Center & Office of Family Law Facilitator for six-years. Realizing she could impact more families through direct representation and collaborative mediation, she opened her own practice, Parker Wesley & Associates, in January of 2012.
Her work as a Certified Family Mediator with California Family Mediation Services is the natural progression of Kim's work as an attorney. Kim has noted that although divorce and separation are inevitable for some families, for some there still may be a desire to work through this transition in a respectful and kinder way. Through mediation families are able to better cope with the idea of seperation because they go through the process together. Mediation with an attorney and psychotherapist as the neutral third-party in the room offers a way for couples to work through the emotional impasses and towards agreements in a supportive environment. For that reason California Family Mediation Services offers a team mediation approach. Their motto is, "California, don't litigate! Mediate your family law disputes."
