Melanie Carpenter joined the Firm in 1996. Her area of practice is general civil litigation, including labor and employment, insurance defense and business litigation.

During law school, Melanie was a member of the moot court board. From 1994 to 1996, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard Battey, Senior (then Chief) Judge of the United States District Court, District of South Dakota, in Rapid City.

She is admitted to practice before the U. S. District Court for the District of South Dakota, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Melanie is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, and the South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association. She is currently serving on the SD State Bar Labor and Employment Law Committee.
