Brian Carnie is a member of the firm's labor and employment group, with more than 15 years of experience advising and defending employers ranging from small and mid-sized businesses to major multinational corporations and public agencies. Before joining Cook, Yancey, Brian practiced in Chicago where he focused on employment and NLRB litigation, statutory and regulatory compliance, and personnel practices.
Brian dedicates his practice exclusively to the representation of management's interests in virtually all aspects of labor and employment law, including the defense of wrongful discharge, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, workplace tort, breach of contract, FMLA, and FLSA claims in federal and state courts and administrative agencies. He has guided employers through complex disability and leave issues, workforce reorganizations/layoffs, wage and hour investigations and worker misclassification audits, helping clients avoid the costs of prolonged legal disputes. Brian serves as company negotiator for collective bargaining, defends employers in grievance hearings and arbitrations, and counsels businesses on union avoidance strategies and on a range of issues that arise in organized workplaces.
Brian is a frequent speaker on a variety of personnel policies and practices. He is a 2009 graduate of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Leadership program, and is an active member in the Krewe of Centaur and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Shreveport, where he serves as an usher and oblationer.
