Shannon is a 1991 graduate of the University of Texas. She received her law degree (J.D. with honors) in 1994 from the University of Houston Law Center where she attained Order of the Coif, Order of the Barons, and Order of the Barristers distinctions.
As an Assistant Attorney General, Shannon represented government agencies, entities, employees, hospitals, physicians, nurses and commissions in a wide range of tort litigation. Prior to joining the Attorney General's office, Shannon worked as General Counsel for an Austin-based corporation and practiced in the area of insurance defense and medical malpractice litigation in Houston for four years.
Shannon's publications include: Analysis of Legal Issues: Medical Malpractice Cases, MEDICAL DEVICE & PHARMACEUTICAL LITIGATION SEMINAR (University of Houston Law Center 1998); Practical and Ethical Considerations of Relationships with Physicians in Mass Tort Settings, NATIONAL DRUG AND MEDICAL DEVICE LITIGATION SEMINAR (Defense Research Institute 1997); and Bad Faith Litigation and the DTPA (1996) (continuing education for insurance adjusters). She is a second term member of the Board of Directors of the Austin Young Lawyers Association.
