PRIMARY AREAS OF PRACTICE
Ms. Bussel specializes in the areas of employment law, civil rights litigation, general liability, insurance defense, and the representation of public entities. She has participated in litigation, involving motor vehicle matters, defense of property owners, and civil rights and employment cases involving alleged violations of 42 U.S.C. §1983, the ADA, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, and the Conscientious Employee Protection Act.
REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE
Ms. Bussel has successfully litigated matters in the Superior and District Courts. Most notably she received dismissal on behalf of her clients for alleged constitutional violations on a motion argued before now retired Chief Judge Bissell. Ms. Bussel also received dismissal in another matter relative to alleged violations of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and the Conscientious Employee Protection Act, on all twelve counts of the Complaint, and the decision was upheld by the Appellate Division and the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Ms Bussel also acted as a Guardian Ad Litem for a minor child in an adoption proceeding.
EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Ms. Bussel graduated from the University of Delaware in 1999 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. She graduated cum laude from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center in 2003, where she received her Juris Doctorate. She is admitted to the New Jersey State bar.
While attending law school, Ms. Bussel was a staff member for the International Travel Law Journal. Her article on airline liability was published in the May 2002 edition of the journal. Ms. Bussel also served as Secretary for Phia Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and performed Pro Bono work for the Legal Aid Society of Broward County, Florida. Prior to joining Gebhardt & Kiefer, Ms. Bussel was a litigation attorney at another firm that specializes in Insurance Defense. Ms. Bussel joined Gebhardt & Kiefer in 2009.
