Mr. Burkley brings to Burkley & Brandlin expertise in corporate, real estate, succession and estate planning, and probate and trust litigation, with over 46 years experience.
A graduate of the Harvard Law School, in the late 1970's Mr. Burkley was the managing partner of Barrett, Stearns, Collins, Gleason & Kinney, a pre-eminent real estate firm, which did most of the legal work for the Ernest Hahn Company, a major shopping center developer. During the 1980's, Mr. Burkley was the managing partner of Burkley, Moore, Greenberg & Lyman , a Torrance law firm whose principal areas of practice included business and real estate transactions and litigation, as well as estate planning, probate and trust administration. Prior to the formation of Burkley & Brandlin, Mr. Burkley practiced “of counsel” to Petillon & Hansen, a leading corporate securities firm.
Mr. Burkley has also been active in the non-legal community. He is a past board chair of H.E.L.P. (Healthcare and Elder Law Programs Corporation), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people meet aging-related legal and care challenges, and the first recipient of its Legacy Award. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, and Vice-President of the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce. He has served as President of the South Bay Bar Association, the Palos Verdes Art Center, and the Palos Verdes Tennis Club. He presently serves on the Board of the Volunteer Center of the South Bay. Mr. Burkley has written and lectured on estate and succession planning, and has been quoted in a variety of important daily newspapers and magazines across America, including INC. magazine, the Los Angeles Times, and the Los Angeles Business Journal. His succession planning ideas have been published in the Palos Verdes Peninsula News, and also have appeared in Jane Applegate's Strategies for Small Business Success.
