Steve Brown received his B.A. degree in Psychology from St. Louis University in 1967. He received his J.D. degree from Boston College Law School in 1970.

He was a staff writer for the Uniform Commercial Credit Code Reporter Digest and for the Harvard-B.U. Selective Service Digest. After working as a staff attorney with Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, he was an associate with a St. Louis civil rights law firm and became a partner in two general practice partnerships until founding his own firm in 1995.

He is admitted to practice before the trial and appellate Courts of the State of Missouri, the Missouri Labor and Industrial Relations Commission, Workers Compensation Division, the Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern District of Missouri, and the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan Saint Louis. He has litigated on behalf of clients in all of the referenced courts and has negotiated many client disputes with and without the aids of mediation and arbitration.

Representative appellate experience includes:

Employment Law:

Wallace v. Debron Corp., 494 F. 2d 674 (8th Cir. 1974), U.S. Circuit Court decision holding invalid a company rule discharging employees for excessive wage garnishments on the ground that it had a disparate racial impact; Cole v. Litz, 562 S.W.2d 795 (Mo. App. 1978) challenging a decision of the St. Louis County Civil Commission to terminate a County employee. On appeal, the court found that the Commission impermissibly shifted the burden of proof and denied the employee due process; Amir v. St. Louis University , 184 F.3d 1017 (8th Cir. 1999) holding that a medical student with obsessive compulsive disorder who was dismissed from medical school after asserting disability discrimination against the school could pursue his Americans With Disabilities Act retaliation suit against the university on account of his dismissal

Bankruptcy Law & Consumer Law:

Shores V. Express Lending Services, Inc., 998 S.W.2d 122 (Mo.App.E.D. 1999, overturning a trial court's dismissal of a suit by an elderly woman with Alzheimer's disease against a mortgage brokerage firm which she and her relatives claimed had tricked her into borrowing money and setting her up for an attempted foreclosure on her mortgage; and

Baldwin v. Credit Based Asset Servicing and Securitization, 516 F.3d 734 (8th Cir. 2008), U.S. App. LEXIS 4006; Bankr. L. Rep. (CCH) P81,214, holding that a Chapter 13 bankruptcy debtor is entitled to notice satisfying constitutional due process requirements before his case can be dismissed in an expedited fashion

Workers Compensation:

Law Grubbs v. Treasurer of Missouri, Second Injury Fund, Inj. No. 03071549, Mo. Labor & Industrial Relations Commission, decided 12/19/08, holding that a claim against the Second Injury Fund was not time barred as an administrative law judge had found. This case is currently on appeal to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District.
