PERSONAL INFORMATION
Edward A. ("Ted") Brown graduated from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts in 1980. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York in 1984, and graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 1987. Mr. Brown divides his time between the main office in Brunswick, the "winter office" at Sugarloaf U.S.A., and the "summer office" in Georgetown, Maine. Mrs. Brown is the Superintendent of Schools for the City of Augusta. The Browns have three children and two grandchildren.
Our paralegal assistant, Sharon Greene, began working as a legal secretary upon graduation from Mt. Ararat high school (in Topsham, Maine) in 1986. After working for Attorney John Moncure in Topsham and Brunswick, Maine and a short stint with a law office in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Mrs. Greene started working for Mr. Brown at Kohler & Brown in 1991. She obtained her Paralegal Certificate from Casco Bay College in Portland, Maine in 1998. Mrs. Greene resides with her husband and two children in Bowdoinham. Clients are encouraged to deal with Mrs. Greene as much as possible to help save on their legal fees.
Rylie P. Dog joined Mr. Brown's solo practice in June of 1998 at the age of four months. Tucker K. Dog joined the office over Christmas in 2007. Both dogs help with office security, but would rather be someplace else.
REPRESENTATIVE CLIENTS
Many of Mr. Brown's family law clients are individuals drawn from the three largest employers in the area; Bath Iron Works, L.L. Bean, and the U.S. Naval Air Station, Brunswick. Each of these employers has unique characteristics which can affect both the financial and the non-financial issues of divorce, post-divorce, support and custody cases.
The self-employed are likewise strongly represented among our clients. We continue to represent a very diverse group which includes everyone from Navy personnel to nuclear engineers, college professors to lobster fishermen. We always have a fair number of full-time homemakers among our current clients, as well. All cases are different, and each individual should feel that their attorney will give their case all of the attention that it requires.
In addition to Mr. Brown's regular family law practice, he also handles all of the collection cases in Maine for U.S. Foodservice, Inc. (formerly Kraft Foodservice and Alliant Foodservice) of Peabody, Massachusetts.
Construction and lien claims are routinely handled for Down East Energy (a building materials and fuel supplier), Ray Labbe & Sons, Inc. (an excavation contractor), and R.J. Pelletier, Inc. (a painting contractor).
Other types of litigation cases (including personal injury and sexual abuse matters) are taken on a case-by-case basis.
Almost everyone should engage in basic estate planning, with a will, advance health-care directive and durable financial power of attorney. A trust may be appropriate as well. These is no charge for an initial consultation.
