Since joining Sylvester & Maley in 1981, Michael has represented personal injury claimants in trials, appeals, arbitrations and mediations arising out of automobile accidents, ski accidents, pharmaceutical claims, legal and medical malpractice claims, products liability claims, accidental shootings, dram shop cases and recreational injuries. Michael has represented, as lead or co-counsel, numerous plaintiffs who have recovered sums in excess of $1 million by verdict or settlement. The cases have involved auto accidents, product liability claims, wrongful death, and other claims of negligence. The most recent verdict involved an auto-truck collision in which the Plaintiff represented by Michael, Alan Sylvester and Amy Sylvester, received a verdict in excess of $2.5 million. The most recent settlement involved the settlement of a wrongful death claim for $2.5 million.
Michael graduated from the University of Vermont in 1976 and from John Marshall Law School with distinction in 1980. He was admitted to the Bar of the State of Vermont and the U. S. District Court for Vermont in 1980 and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 1984. Following a one-year clerkship with Justice Robert Larrow of the Vermont Supreme Court in 1980 -1981, Michael joined Sylvester & Maley. Michael served as an associate member and member of the Board of Bar Examiners from 1996 - 2002. Michael is a former board member of the Aquatic Injury Safety Group.
