Since the inception of Bickel & Brewer, Mr. Brewer has earned a nationwide reputation as one of the most successful lawyers in the United States practicing exclusively in the field of complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution.

Mr. Brewer’s unique approach to client advocacy and case management is widely recognized as having forever changed the manner in which commercial litigation is practiced. Mr. Brewer was instrumental in commissioning the development of one of the legal profession’s most sophisticated, computer-based document information management systems. In furtherance of that system, Mr. Brewer’s law firm developed an offshore facility in India that oversees the imaging and abstracting of documents relating to the firm’s cases, allowing the firm to improve efficiency in information management while saving its clients money. Mr. Brewer also became widely recognized as a pioneer in the development and administration of multidisciplinary practices. He earned national acclaim for his efforts to advance the utilization of alternative fee arrangements, and formed one of the country’s first in-house legal communications practices dedicated to providing public relations services to clients. More recently, Mr. Brewer received national attention for his pioneering efforts to create an in-house Investigation Unit, composed of professionals from the world’s leading intelligence and law enforcement organizations. All of these innovations work in concert with Mr. Brewer’s singular goal of effectively managing high-stakes advocacy – legal matters that involve substantial financial and business exposure, cutting-edge legal issues, or significant public policy questions.

Under Mr. Brewer’s direction, Bickel & Brewer is active in various legal disciplines: antitrust, hospitality law, intellectual property, environmental law, real estate law and finance. Testaments to the significance of Mr. Brewer’s caseload are the news organizations that routinely mention his work. The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, The Associated Press, Fortune, The New York Law Journal, and many other prominent media outlets have all reported extensively on Mr. Brewer’s legal representation. A frequent lecturer and speaker, Mr. Brewer has been published in numerous legal and business publications. He also is a member of the editorial board of Hotel Business Review and the Cornell Quarterly, the flagship publication of The Cornell Hotel School.

Mr. Brewer co-founded the firm’s public interest law firm, the Bickel & Brewer Storefront, and the Bickel & Brewer Foundation. Mr. Brewer founded the Bickel & Brewer Future Leaders Program, a public-private partnership that lights a path to college for more than 170 students from the Dallas Independent School District. He founded the Bickel & Brewer/New York University International Public Policy Forum, the first contest that gives high school students the opportunity to participate in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. In support of this competition, Mr. Brewer serves as chairman of the development committee for a Dallas-based advisory board of the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues. Mr. Brewer is also a founder and advisory board member of the Bickel & Brewer Latino Institute for Human Rights at NYU School of Law. In recognition of his efforts to benefit the Latino community, Mr. Brewer recently received the “President’s Award” from the Puerto Rican Bar Association in New York.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Mr. Brewer received his bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, from St. John’s University in 1974, followed in 1977 by his juris doctorate, cum laude, from the Albany Law School of Union University. Thereafter, Mr. Brewer attended New York University School of Law where he received a master of laws in trade regulation in 1978. Mr. Brewer is admitted to practice in Texas and New York, as well as a number of federal district courts and the Courts of Appeal for the Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Federal Circuits.

He is a member of various professional and philanthropic organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Dallas Bar Association, the New York City Partnership and the Academy of Hospitality Industry Attorneys. Mr. Brewer currently serves as a member of the board of trustees of Albany Law School and Paul Quinn College.

Mr. Brewer is continually recognized in Dallas, New York, and throughout the United States as one of the top lawyers in commercial litigation.
