Jamie Bordas is the managing member of the law firm of Bordas & Bordas, PLLC. He has tried numerous cases and obtained record results including a $10 million verdict in an insurance bad faith case. He has also negotiated major settlements in complex litigation, including settlements for $36.5 million and $18.5 million. He is frequently called upon to lecture to other lawyers in a wide variety of areas of litigation including insurance bad faith, discovery, trial strategy, and negotiation strategies. Jamie also serves as the lead negotiator for many of the firm's complex cases.
Licensed to practice law in both West Virginia and Ohio, Jamie has also been involved in cases in Pennsylvania, Delaware, North Carolina, Texas, New Mexico, and Florida. He is on the Board of Governors of the West Virginia Association for Justice. He has been selected for inclusion by the National Trial Lawyers as a member of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers since 2008. Jamie is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Ohio Association for Justice, Public Justice, the West Virginia State Bar and the Ohio State Bar.
Jamie has handled a wide variety of complex litigation on behalf of plaintiffs including insurance bad faith, toxic torts, nursing home negligence, medical negligence, wrongful termination, class actions, mass tort construction defects, unfair lending practices, oil and gas litigation, tractor trailer negligence, multi-party injury cases arising out of negligent planning of public events, product liability, and cases involving explosions. He has argued numerous times before the Supreme Court of Appeals regarding diverse issues such as arbitration, jury selection, and voir dire. He also manages all the firm's day to day operations.
A native of Wheeing, West Virginia, he attended Wheeling Park High School where he was president of the Student Council, a National Merit Finalist, and captain and quarterback of the football team. He went on to graduate magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1997 where he was Sports Editor of The Dome, the Notre Dame yearbook, for three years and wrote the final tribute to Coach Lou Holtz upon his retirement. He then graduated cum laude from the Notre Dame law school in 2000 where he received the Dean's Award for Complex Criminal Litigation and was featured in a NFL Films segment on ESPN2 as a result of his coaching Interhall Tackle Football at Notre Dame.
Actively involved in the local community, Jamie has served as a varsity football coach at Wheeling Central Catholic High School since 2002, becoming defensive coordinator in 2005. During his tenure, the Maroon Knights have captured seven West Virginia Class A State Championships. Jamie has served as President of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Wheeling. He has served on the Pastoral Council at St. Vincent de Paul Parish where he is a member and regularly attends church. Jamie has served on the Bishop's Blue Ribbon Commission for Catholic Education for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. He has served as Chairman for the Catholic Charities of West Virginia Annual Gala. He has also been a member of the Wheeling Central High School Joint Task Force.
Jamie is the son of the two founding members of the firm, Jim and Linda Bordas. Jamie is married to the former Stacy Contraguerro, also an attorney with the firm. They reside in Wheeling with their three children.
