Bierkan, Dean A.

Mr. Bien is a member of the Firm’s Corporate Services Practice Group. His practice is largely devoted to corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and international business transactions. He has an extensive background and experience in the areas of joint ventures, intellectual property development and licensing, tax structures and general business operations.

Mr. Bien was previously chief legal officer and advisor to several privately held international manufacturing and distribution companies. His work covered contracts, litigation/arbitration, intellectual property, real estate, employment, collective bargaining and general business advice. In particular, his work included the acquisition and/or establishment of foreign subsidiaries, the acquisition, protection and licensing of patents, trademarks and other intellectual property, and contracts and joint ventures for the development of chemical, software, medical and biotech products. In connection with the foregoing, Mr. Bien has extensive experience negotiating and drafting syndicated loans, asset-based loans, governmental and institutional guarantees, subordinated debt and earn-outs.

Mr. Bien is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, District of Columbia Bar and American Bar Association. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mr. Bien holds a B.A. with honors and distinction in History and Mathematics (1975) from the University of Michigan, a J.D. cum laude (1978) from the University of Michigan Law School and an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law (1979) from the Free University of Brussels (VUB).

Mr. Bien speaks fluent French.
