David J. Berta is an attorney with almost 20 years of litigation experience. Mr. Berta is a former judge in the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division. Mr. Berta first obtained the position of judge at the age of 37. During his tenure as judge, Mr. Berta formulated a juvenile mental health court, one of only 11 such specialized dockets in the State of Ohio. He has served as an administrative judge, being responsible for over 200 employees and a 12.1 million dollar budget. While a judge, Mr. Berta presided over hundreds of contested trials and hearings. These areas include cases in the areas of, but not limited to, child custody, divorce and annulment, child support, juvenile delinquency, adult crime proceedings and contested wills. Mr. Berta also sat at the Ohio Supreme Court Domestic Relations Rules Committee.
As an attorney, Mr. Berta handled over 1500 individual cases and clients. He has sat first chair in over 35 jury trials. Mr. Berta has handled corporate law, general civil law, trademark law, domestic relations law, child custody law, DUI law, both misdemeanor and felony adult criminal law, juvenile law and many other areas.
Mr. Berta has been honored for his time on the bench by numerous organizations including Lorian County Voices for Children.
Mr. Berta is licensed to practice in all Ohio state courts, the Northern District of Ohio Federal Court and the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Berta graduated from the University of Toledo with honors in 1991 and received his J.D. from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1994.
