Kenneth Baird enjoys the "think outside the box" philosophy at Brown Sims that encourages each attorney to use all possible resources to defend the firm's clients and fulfill the unique needs of each case. Diligent preparation is a key part of his personal legal philosophy.
Mr. Baird also believes that advice should be provided to a client in a manner which empowers the client to make the best decision possible based upon the client's own specialized business considerations.
Typical of the cases he handles was his involvement in the defense of a safety equipment manufacturer in a wrongful death claim. The fatal accident took place outside of Texas, but the case was filed in a Texas court. The manufacturer was a foreign company.
The defense team asserted challenges to personal jurisdiction for the manufacturer, arguing that the company's contacts with Texas were not strong enough for the court to exert general jurisdiction.
Mr. Baird drafted the special appearances, took depositions on personal jurisdiction issues and argued the motions before a state district court. The result was that the manufacturer was dismissed from the case for lack of personal jurisdiction.
Mr. Baird graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Texas Christian University in 1999, and in 2002 earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Texas School of Law.
He was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2002; United States District Courts for the Eastern District and Southern Districts of Texas in 2003; and Fifth Circuit of Appeals in 2004. He is a Member of the Houston Bar Association and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel.
