Bailey, Shawn P.

Jim Bailey came to Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak & Kohen, Ltd. after working as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County for almost 30 years. He has been honored by proclamation by the President and Commissioners of the Cook County Board and Anita Alvarez, the Cook County State’s Attorney, for his dedication, knowledge and devotion to assisting the residents of Cook County and the People of the State of Illinois.

 For the past 17 years, he was assigned to the Civil Actions Bureau where he represented Cook County in virtually every aspect of the law in every court house in Cook County and the Federal Courts. The County acknowledged his vast trial experience and he has successfully litigated hundreds of claims at the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. He also has extensive criminal law experience as lead trial attorney for cases in the Illinois Criminal courts. His trial experience exceeds 1000 trials, including over 50 jury trials. As lead counsel, he was responsible for trying very complex matters. As an active appellate lawyer, he has argued over 35 matters before the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court.

 As a former Respondent’s attorney, Jim understands the defenses and theories of employers and insurance companies, and he knows how to effectively represent the injured employee to maximize their benefits under the Workers’ Compensation Act.

 Jim is sympathetic to the working men and women in the skilled trades. He has worked as a plumber’s helper at Great Lakes Plumbing and Heating, an Operating Engineer for the City of Chicago and a Cement Laborer on the reconstruction of the Edens Expressway. His family has been active for over 50 years in Local 130, the Chicago Journeymen Plumber’s Union.
