R. Lee Allen joined Sorling, Northrup, Hanna, Cullen & Cochran, Ltd. in 1994 on graduation from law school. He concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, tax law, corporate law, and real estate law.
Prior to joining Sorling, Mr. Allen served as Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer in the trust department at Marine Bank of Springfield, now Bank One, Illinois, N.A. While at Marine, Mr. Allen's areas of responsibility included personal trust, land trust, probate and guardianship administration, estate planning, and farm management. In 1990, Mr. Allen graduated from the American Bankers' Association's National Graduate Trust School with the designation of Chartered Financial Services Counselor.
Mr. Allen has lectured for the National Business Institute on Illinois Elder Law and Family Limited Partnerships in Illinois and coauthored supplements to "Advising Illinois Financial Institutions" regarding agricultural loans and "Basic Real Estate Practice" regarding tax considerations, both published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education. In addition, he has presented numerous seminars on estate and business planning and charitable planning. Mr. Allen has also lectured and prepared course materials for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education on the topic "Tax Considerations in Structuring the Purchase or Sale of a Business", and delivered numerous presentations on charitable planned giving topics to charitable organizations and potential donors. He is a member of the Sangamon Valley Estate Planning Council.
