Mr. Zaynard focuses his practice primarily on consumer bankruptcy under both Chapter 7 (liquidation) and Chapter 13 (restructuring); his practice also includes estate planning and criminal defense. Mr. Zaynard chose to focus on these areas so he could help people who are going through a difficult time in their lives to move past it and get back to a better place. As the grandson of a Colorado judge, Mr. Zaynard strives to follow the example that his grandfather set and use his knowledge, experience, and expertise to help those in need.
Mr. Zaynard was born in Denver and raised in Littleton, and was awarded a degree in Microbiology from Colorado State University before returning to the Denver metro area. After several years as a business technologist, Mr. Zaynard found himself unfulfilled; although his work was interesting, he yearned to make a difference. On the advice of a friend, he decided to enter the law program at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law as a way to fulfill that desire.
While in law school, Mr. Zaynard interned at the Denver District Attorney’s office in the appellate division, gaining valuable legal experience. Around the same time, he began volunteering at the Lakewood Teen Court, a highly successful diversion program run by the Lakewood probation department. In the program, teen offenders are sentenced by their peers rather than the juvenile justice system. Mr. Zaynard acted as an advisor to the teen volunteers, as well as acting as bailiff and judge at times. He later also became involved with a program called Mile High Squash, which helped under-served Denver schoolchildren with a combination of physical activity and tutoring.
Mr. Zaynard graduated and was admitted to the bar in 2007. In September of 2008, he found himself working his first bankruptcy cases. As he guided clients through the process and back toward financial stability, he felt for the first time that he was truly making a difference.
Mr. Zaynard has worked on cases large and small, yet it is the small, individual cases that he finds to be the most satisfying. Not only do these types of cases allow him to give his clients the full, personal attention they deserve, but they also allow him to make a meaningful difference in those clients’ lives.
