Robert McAlhany is a senior associate in the Litigation/Controversy Department, and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group. He joined the firm in 2011.
Practice
Dr. McAlhany’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation. He has represented clients in cases involving biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and computer systems. Prior to joining WilmerHale, Dr. McAlhany was an associate at Howrey LLP. While there, he represented defendants against claims of invalidity of patents and infringement.
After completing his Ph.D., Dr. McAlhany completed a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Baylor College of Medicine in the field of Neuroscience, and subsequently managed the Vector Development Laboratory. Dr. McAlhany has experience in medical sciences, biotechnology, neuroscience, molecular biology and cellular and gene therapy.
Community Involvement
Dr. McAlhany also provides pro bono services for Legal Services for Children, representing children in school disciplinary hearings. Dr. McAlhany was awarded LSC’s 2009 Pro Bono Advocate Award for his service.
Professional Activities
Dr. McAlhany is a member of the American Bar Association, Section of Intellectual Property Law and Section of Science and Technology Law. He is also a member of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association. In addition, Dr. McAlhany is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association.
Dr. McAlhany is a member of Sigma Xi and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. From 1995 to 2001, he was a member of the Society for Neuroscience. Additionally, he was a member of the Research Society on Alcoholism for four years.
