Chris Maynard practices general civil litigation across a broad spectrum of matters. He focuses on antitrust, intellectual property, and securities and shareholder litigation in state and federal courts. He also has extensive experience in contract, product liability, and bankruptcy matters.
Recently, Chris participated in the successful defense of Nokia in Golden Bridge Technology, Inc. v. Nokia Inc., et al., Case No. 6:06-cv-636 (E.D. Tex.). In that case, Nokia was awarded summary judgment where the plaintiff alleged that Nokia engaged in a group boycott with other members of 3GPP, a standard-setting organization related to 3G cellular communication, by conspiring to remove plaintiff's alleged technology from a 3GPP standard.
His trial experience includes being a member of the trial team for Texas Instruments in Texas Instruments Inc. v. Qualcomm Incorporated, Civil Action No. 20569 (Del. Ch. Ct.). That trial resulted in a take nothing bench verdict for Texas Instruments in a case where Qualcomm alleged that Texas Instruments had materially breached the companies' cross-license agreement. The Delaware Supreme Court affirmed the verdict.
Chris's litigation experience also includes significant work on the following matters:
• In re Methionine Antitrust Litigation (Northern California federal court and multiple state courts), achieved favorable settlement for Aventis companies in federal class action and opt-out suits and state indirect purchaser class action suits alleging a price-fixing conspiracy.
• In re Electronic Data Systems Corporation Securities Litigation (Texas federal court), achieved favorable settlement in consolidated securities fraud action against the company and current and former officers and directors.
• Opay v. Experian Information Solutions, Inc. (Minnesota state court), obtained dismissal, and affirmance on appeal, for Experian on a purported class action alleging violations of the Minnesota price-cap statute for consumer credit reports.
• Qualcomm Incorporated v. Nokia Corporation (Southern California federal court), achieved favorable settlement for Nokia in a case seeking specific performance of a cross-license agreement.
Chris authored "Nine-Headed Caesar: The Supreme Court's Thumbs-Up Approach to the Right to Travel," published in 51 Case Western Reserve Law Review 297 (Winter 2000). He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, and the Dallas Bar Association.
