Shirley Woodward is a partner in the firm's Litigation/Controversy Department, and a member of the Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Practice Group. She joined the firm in 2001.
Practice
Ms. Woodward has a general litigation practice, with an emphasis on appellate and Supreme Court litigation. She returned to the firm after a year as Associate General Counsel and Chief Iraq Investigator for the Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the US Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Ms. Woodward has represented clients in a variety of federal and state courts, both at the trial and appellate level. Her practice has included cases involving complex commercial disputes, government contracts, corporate investigations and complex international litigation. She has also advised clients in relation to pending legislation.
In the Supreme Court, Ms. Woodward has assisted in drafting petitions for certiorari, amicus briefs and merits briefs in a variety of matters, including a pro bono death penalty case and the Agent Orange class action litigation.
Before joining WilmerHale in 2001, Ms. Woodward served in the Operations Directorate of the CIA.
