Mike Wolak's practice is focused on complex commercial litigation on behalf of domestic and international corporations. Mike has broad experience litigating a full range of commercial disputes and business torts, including shareholder actions, entrenchment claims, and other corporate/director conduct. He has substantial experience with class action claims, complex bankruptcy litigation, aviation/airline contracts, and application of the Uniform Partnership Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Mike is part of the Jones Day team currently representing Yamaha Motor Corporation in off-road vehicle litigation. In 2008, Mike participated in a three-day hearing in federal court and helped obtain a preliminary injunction (later affirmed by the Eleventh Circuit) enjoining Delta Air Lines from terminating a multimillion dollar regional carrier contract and second-chaired a jury trial that resulted in a verdict and award of attorneys' fees for FedEx Ground in tax appraisal litigation. As part of his practice, Mike routinely works with the Firm's corporate lawyers to counsel corporate clients on litigation issues. Mike litigates before many different state and federal courts and forums, including Delaware's Chancery Court, the American Arbitration Association, and the International Chamber of Commerce.
In 2009, Mike was appointed by the Atlanta Bar Association to serve as a mediator/arbitrator of disputes between lawyers. Mike has lectured for the National Business Institute on developing issues under the Federal Arbitration Act and Georgia Arbitration Code and has served since 2006 as an instructor for Emory University's Trial Techniques Workshops.
