Richard W. Withers is a Senior Attorney on the KEL team. A fourth-generation Central Floridian, he is a graduate of Daytona Beach Community College and the University of Florida (B.A., 1969) and the University of Florida College of Law (J.D., 1972).
Admitted to The Florida Bar in 1972, Mr. Withers has a broad background of public and private practice in Northeast, Central, and Southwest Florida. He began his career working in private practice in Daytona Beach before developing a maritime practice in Jacksonville, specializing in defense of claims made under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and its various extensions and seaman’s claims under the Jones Act. In addition, Mr. Withers routinely defended claims brought under the Florida Workers’ Compensation Act based upon toxic exposure.
He was appointed as the School Board Attorney for the Nassau County School Board in 1995, a position he held until relocating to Naples in 2004 to serve as the School Board Attorney for the Collier County School Board.
He returned to Central Florida in 2008 and joined KEL as a Senior Attorney in 2011. At KEL, Mr. Withers represents clients in a variety of administrative law, litigation, and appellate matters. He lives with his wife Barbara, a symphony violinist, and a motley crew of birds and cats in Apopka. They are members of Journey Christian Church in Apopka.
