Melissa focuses her practice on consumer class actions, seeking to hold product manufacturers accountable for their deceptive marketing practices. Melissa established a foundation for her litigation practice through first serving as a judicial extern for the Honorable Paul A. Magnuson of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota while in law school. After law school, Melissa worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Gary Larson, Judge of Hennepin County District Court and the Honorable Lucy A. Wieland, then Chief Judge of Hennepin County District Court.
Prior to joining Halunen & Associates, Melissa practiced in the areas of construction and general casualty litigation. Melissa has been recognized as a "Rising Star" by Minnesota Super Lawyers.
Melissa is a William Mitchell College of Law graduate where she served as the student representative to the Board of Trustees and participated in the Rosalie Wahl Moot Court. Melissa also received two CALI awards for receiving the highest grades in Employment Discrimination and Criminal Law.
Melissa has a passion for serving her community and is especially committed to organizations and initiatives benefiting children. Melissa established the Young Professionals Committee for Make-A-Wish of Minnesota that seeks to grant a child’s wish every year. Melissa also organized and chaired the Faith’s Lodge Junior Advisory Board. Faith’s Lodge is a retreat in northern Wisconsin for those coping with the serious illness or loss of a child. Additionally, she provides pro bono legal services for the Cardozo Society Legal Aid Clinic at the Minneapolis Urban League.
She is also an active member of the Minnesota and Hennepin County Bar Associations and the Cardozo Society.
