Nikki G. Maples is a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. However, Nikki is no stranger to the practice of family law in Austin, Texas. Prior to law school, Nikki worked as a paralegal for Austin family law attorneys for more than ten years. As a paralegal, she acquired the trial and practical skills necessary for handling cases and clients, as well as the finer details for creative resolutions to family law disputes.

While attending law school, Nikki participated in the Family Law Assistance Project and a pro bono legal aid organization, servicing survivors of domestic violence. Also, Nikki has completed the training required to handle mediations and applies that training as a dispute resolution approach with her clients.

Not only is Nikki an associate attorney for Janet McCullar Vavra, but she has also expanded her professional exposure by actively participating in various legal organizations.  Nikki was accepted and participated in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Associates School and gained experience and skills from the highest regarded family lawyers in the country.  Also noteworthy is Nikki's committment to providing legal advice and service to veterans through the Veteran's Legal Project.  Nikki also enjoys mentoring law students and the youth of the community.  She has given much of her time to the National Trial Competition, so that law students may have an opportunity to nationally compete against students of other law schools.  Her participation in Law-Related Education provides opportunities to mentor high school students at Teen Court, designed to help the youth whom are involved in the juvenile system, and on various occasions, has accompanied schools to the courthouse to observe court proceedings.  Of the many organizations in which Nikki is involved, ske takes her greatest pleasure in the involvement as a leader and member of the inaugural class of the Austin Young Lawyers Association Leadership Academy, where she has collaborated with other members of the academy to fundraise for the Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid.  More recently, Nikki has been accepted into the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Leadership Appointment, where she has become a team member for a Public Service Project. 

On a more personal note, Nikki enjoys being active with her family and participating in local athletic events.  With her passion for health and fitness, Nikki has offered her creativity to the Austin Fit Bar, and continues to work on projects geared to improve the health and physical wellness of Austin's legal community.
