Randy Wimbish is Chair of the firm's Healthcare practice group. He concentrates his practice primarily in the area of medical professional liability in both state and federal courts throughout Virginia. Randy has represented physicians in a wide variety of medical specialties, as well as dentists, nurses, allied health providers, and hospitals of all types and sizes. He has tried fifty-five jury cases, and has presented numerous other cases to arbitrators in lieu of a jury trial. He also has extensive experience with mediation.

Randy's practice includes advising health care providers on risk management in order to prevent claims before they occur. He also represents health care providers before various state regulatory and disciplinary boards. Randy has significant appellate experience, as well. He teamed with Margaret Hardy to win the landmark case of Sanchez v. Medicorp, 270 Va. 299 (2005), which significantly limited liability of Virginia's hospitals for the alleged negligence of non-employee physicians.

Randy has a strong track record of successful representation of health care providers at trial. He is particularly proficient in the defense of high risk, high exposure cases, including cases involving a high degree of sympathy that can tilt the scales in favor of the plaintiff at the beginning of the case. Over the years, Randy has obtained defense verdicts for doctors and hospitals in cases involving maternal and infant death, neurologically compromised infants (so called "bad baby" cases), cancer, strokes, amputations, and a variety of surgical complications.

He has been recognized by Virginia Lawyers Weekly and the Virginia Medical Law Report for obtaining at least one of the largest defense verdicts in Virginia every year from 2004 through 2008, including five of the largest defense verdicts in Virginia in 2005.

Randy has lectured frequently to both health care providers and attorneys on subjects related to medical negligence cases, and is a contributing author to Medical Malpractice Law in Virginia and the Virginia Medical Law Report. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America 2010 Edition, as one of Virginia's "Legal Elite" by Virginia Business magazine since 2005, and as one of the Virginia Super Lawyers since 2006.

Randy's recognition by his peers culminated in 2010 when he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only, after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and those whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Membership in the College cannot exceed 1% of the total lawyer population of any state or province.

As a graduate of Virginia Tech, Randy is an avid follower of the Hokies' football program. His other interests include reading and traveling with his wife and three sons. He is a member of Gayton Baptist Church, and is an active volunteer for FeedMore, a hunger fighting organization which includes the Central Virginia Foodbank and Richmond's Meals on Wheels program.
