Mr. Maldonado is the Chairperson of the Employment Law Practice Group. He is an author for COUCH ON INSURANCE 3D, a nationally recognized authoritative treatise on insurance law. This treatise series comprises 24 volumes of substantive texts covering all aspects of insurance. Mr. Maldonado is a contributing author and wrote the Arizona chapter for the Defense Research Institutes’ EXCESS AND UMBRELLA COMPENDIUM. He is an author of the employment law chapter for the Arizona State Bar Association’s ARIZONA TORT LAW HANDBOOK. Mr. Maldonado is also an Articles Co-Chair for the DRI Insurance Law Committee Advertising Injury and Personal Injury Subcommittee and a contributing author to the Insurance Thought Leadership website.
A substantial part of Mr. Maldonado’s practice involves the analysis and litigation of complex insurance coverage issues. Mr. Maldonado has experience in handling both personal lines and commercial lines coverage issues. His practice also involves representing insurance companies in defense of complex bad faith claims. As part of his complex litigation practice, Mr. Maldonado manages the investigation and litigation of complex employment claims, including Title VII of the Civil Rights of 1964, The Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age and Employment Discrimination Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Section 1981 and 1983 claims, the Arizona Civil Rights Act, and the Arizona Employment Protection Act. Mr. Maldonado also handles employment tort law claims, including, invasion of privacy, defamation, intentional/negligent infliction of emotional distress, negligence, interference with contractual relations, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing in the employment context, sexual assault, battery, conspiracy, and aiding and abetting.
Mr. Maldonado enjoys speaking and has been a guest lecturer for the Defense Research Institute, the Liability Insurance Research Bureau and Property Loss Research Bureau, the State Bar of Arizona, and various employers. He also enjoys traveling, writing short stories and swimming.
