I believe that estate planning should be as convenient, affordable and painless as possible. Let's face it: does anyone enjoy writing their will or trust, or dealing with the other issues that arise when discussing this topic? I can't make this process fun, but I can make it easier for you.
How do I do that? First, in most instances I will complete your work for a fixed fee, which I will tell you before we begin. Generally speaking, I charge a married couple $1000 for an estate plan for both spouses, and I charge a single person $500 for an estate plan for him or her. In other words, I generally don't charge clients on an hourly basis, but if that is necessary, I will tell you that before we begin and give you an estimate of the total fee for the work I would recommend doing for you. Second, I offer free initial consultations, so that we can get to know each other and discuss what services I could offer you. I can meet with you at a time and location convenient for both of us; I am happy to make housecalls. Third, I use technology to enhance, but not replace, the "human element" that is important when practicing law in this area. After all, wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents or services are really all about a person's most private thoughts, information, and feelings. Finally, while I have practiced this type of law for a number of years, I try to take advantage of every opportunity to stay up to date on changes in the law in this area.
